Constanze's Early Life

Mozart and Constanze

Constanze met Mozart in 1781 while he was visiting Mannheim, Germany. They were both immediately attracted to each other, and Mozart began courting Constanze. However, her father did not approve of Mozart, as he considered him to be too poor and irresponsible. Despite her father's objections, Constanze and Mozart married in 1782.

After Mozart's Death

Mozart died in 1791 at the age of 35. Constanze was devastated by his death and struggled to make ends meet for herself and her two sons. She eventually married Georg Nikolaus Nissen, a Danish diplomat, and moved to Copenhagen. Constanze died in 1842 at the age of 80.
