Matteo Arnaldi Upsets Andrey Rublev at Roland-Garros
Arnaldi Wins in Straight Sets
Matteo Arnaldi scored one of the biggest wins of his career Friday at Roland Garros where he upset sixth seed Andrey Rublev 7-66 6-2 6-4 in the third round.
Arnaldi, who is ranked No. 105 in the world, played what he described as the best tennis of his life to topple Rublev, who is a former world No. 5.
The Italian is known for being a great fighter, and the Russian is not always up to the task. Arnaldi took advantage of Rublev's inconsistency and forced him into making errors.
Arnaldi Advances to Second Week
With the win, Arnaldi advances to the second week at Roland-Garros for the first time in his career. He will face Karen Khachanov in the fourth round.
Khachanov is a former world No. 8 and is seeded 21st at Roland-Garros. He will be a tough test for Arnaldi, but the Italian is confident in his abilities.
"I'm playing the best tennis of my life right now," Arnaldi said. "I'm confident that I can beat anyone on any given day."
