How to Get a Certificate of Non-Residency in Spain

What is a Certificate of Non-Residency?

A Certificate of Non-Residency is an official document that certifies the legal status of your residency in Spain. It states whether you are a resident or non-resident of Spain for tax purposes.

Who Needs a Certificate of Non-Residency?

You may need a Certificate of Non-Residency if you are:

  • A foreign national who has lived in Spain for less than 183 days in a calendar year
  • A Spanish national who has lived outside of Spain for more than 183 days in a calendar year

How to Apply for a Certificate of Non-Residency

To apply for a Certificate of Non-Residency, you will need to:

  1. Go to the website of the Spanish Tax Agency (Agencia Tributaria)
  2. Click on the "Individuals" tab
  3. Select the "Certificates" option
  4. Choose the "Certificate of Residence or Non-Residence" option
  5. Fill out the online form and submit it

You will need to provide the following information on the form:

  • Your full name
  • Your date of birth
  • Your NIE (Foreigner Identification Number)
  • Your Spanish address (if applicable)
  • Your foreign address
  • The dates you have lived in Spain and abroad in the last calendar year

Once you have submitted the form, the Spanish Tax Agency will process your request and send you the certificate by mail.
