Fly Dates Moved Up For Genesee County Helicopter Power Line Inspections

Fly dates moved up for Genesee County helicopter power line inspections

Helicopter patrols slated to start this week still on track in Lapeer, Sanilac counties

GENESEE COUNTY, MI -- Consumers Energy helicopter patrols of power lines in Genesee County are starting ahead of schedule this week, while similar inspections in Lapeer and Sanilac counties will stay on track to begin next week.

Helicopter patrols in Genesee County are starting Tuesday, Aug. 29, and are expected to be completed by Sept. 13, weather permitting, according to Consumers Energy spokesperson Christina Sloma.

Crews will be looking for vegetation that has grown too close to power lines, which can pose a safety hazard.

“We are committed to the safety of our communities and our crews, and these inspections are an important part of meeting that commitment,” Sloma said.

The original start date for power line inspections in Genesee County was Sept. 6.

In Lapeer County, the helicopter patrols are scheduled to start Monday, Sept. 5, and be completed by Sept. 14. In Sanilac County, the inspections are scheduled to start Tuesday, Sept. 19, and be completed by Sept. 28.

The helicopters will be flying at low altitudes, and residents may see or hear the aircraft. However, the inspections are not expected to cause any power outages.

Consumers Energy urges residents to stay away from power lines and electrical equipment. If you see a downed power line, stay away and call 911.
